''All of us who have come to Impulsa have come to change the world. We must contribute our grain of sand to leave our children a better world''.

Ana Maiques, cofounder together with her husband Giulio Ruffini, of Starlab, defended the need to bring science and technology back to the important role they must have in society.

"In 2001, the Belgian company Starlab, for which we had replicated the model in Barcelona, closed. I was very happy to experience this failure, because I will never forget what I learned from it. At that moment we found ourselves faced with a dilemma: abandon the company or reinvent it, and that’s how we were born as entrepreneurs. From the failure came an opportunity, and we took advantage of it."

"Entrepreneurship is a leap in the dark. We didn’t have any guarantee that it would work; we had debts, a business model that hadn’t worked. I looked for venture capital, and even for them our business was too risky.

"With friends, family and fools we to completed the project, because we had the conviction that this had to work, even though everyone told us it wouldn’t.

"We have managed to bring talent from all over the world to Catalonia, we have a multi-disciplinary team, and in the company we have spoken English since the first day."

"We design technology for monitoring the Earth, we work for the European Space Agency, and, at the same time, we are fascinated by the study of the brain: neuroscience. The tools we use to study the brain and detect neurodegenerative diseases and those we use to study the Earth are not so different."

"We must return the value of science and technology to society."

"A scientist is passionate about his or her work"

"The entrepreneur wants to have an impact on society"

"Together with my husband, Giulio Ruffini, physicist and mathematician, we have demonstrated that science and business can go hand in hand."

"All of us who have come to Impulsa have come to change the world. We must contribute our grain of sand to leave our children a better world".
