Oscar Fernández-Capetillo, winner of the 2010 IMPULSA Award, among the 28 scientists of the world with most potential

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (USA) has named Oscar Fernández Capetillo as one of the 28 scientists with most potential, in the latest edition of the 'International Early Career Scientists 2011' awards. This North American institution grants recognition to 28 researchers from outside the United States with the greatest possibilities of becoming world class leaders in their field of research. In 2010 Fernández-Capetillo received the ex Aequo IMPULSA Award in the Scientific/Academic category for his contribution to research in the field of oncology.

Oscar Fernández-Capetillo’s research work at the National Cancer Research Center, in Madrid, is based on the utilization of a model in mice to explore the relation between stress and the appearance of cancer and aging.

The 28 scientists, chosen from among 760 candidates from 18 countries, will receive $650,000 in assistance for developing their lines of research over the next five years.

The Prince of Girona Foundation had previously recognized the work of this young researcher in 2010, choosing him as the ex-Aequo winner of the Scientific/Academic IMPULSA Award.
