6,000 children die every day of infections related to a lack of clean drinking water

29/06/2012

This project began at school, with volunteer programmes and fundraising for socials causes.

I started this project after feeling helpless to prevent another child dying because he or she did not have access to drinking water.

After a year I had already managed to gain the necessary support to build a well at a school in Uganda, which I was able to visit personally two years later and see for myself the impact it had on those communities.

To date, Ryan’s Well Foundation has helped build more than 700 wells and 900 latrines, which have improved the sanitary conditions of some 745,000 people.

In addition, we train third parties so that they can increase the knowledge about efficient water management within the communities where we build the wells.

The project began growing in size, and the older I get the more the project makes sense to me.

It’s not good enough to say "I’m just a child", "I’m just a teenager", "I’m just a teacher"... our capacity is not limited. All beginnings are good, and in collaboration with other people we are all capable of spreading our help far and wide. I’m not a superhero. We can do extraordinary things and still be normal people.

It is really worthwhile being a volunteer, without giving up any other interests we may have in life. We only have to be aware when we discover a passion. Fight for it, and make it make us happy and aim to have an impact on other people.
