Chief executive officer of the Public Library of Science (PLOS), a non-profit organisation based in San Francisco which was set up with the aim of transforming science communication. PLOS is a world leader in the Open Access movement and in 2013 it published more open access articles than any other scientific publisher. Previously, Elizabeth Marincola was the executive director of the American Society for Cell Biology and editor of the journal Molecular Biology of the Cell between 1991 and 2005. She has received several prestigious awards and honours in the field of scientific communication.
