Sportacus's job is to encourage the children to practice sports, eat healthy sweet things (fruit and vegetables), show solidarity, and to help resolve problems that may be occurring in the daily life of the city, which in most cases are caused by Robbie Rotten (Stefan Karl Stefánsson), a lazy man who lives beneath the city. In many of the episodes Robbie Rotten uses disguises to avoid being recognized and tries to ruin the fun of the children and adults, or contrives to get Sportacus to leave LazyTown forever, but there is always a happy ending and a message of value for children.
According to statements by Josep Lagares, President of the IMPULSA Forum Organizing Committee,
"I believe fervently that Lazy Town should be seen by all children in the world without exception ... since what this series is promoting and motivating in children is the choice of healthy lifestyles and also instills feelings of sympathy for others, teamwork, and helps children learn to differentiate, while playing and having fun, between pride and humility, laziness and hard work, selfishness and generosity, winning and losing ... among many other positive values that this series promotes in the youngest members of our society."
